• Work Days

    R and Fragile

Yesterday I had a doctor’s appointment in the morning, so I got a late start. I worked exclusively on R peek babies. “R is for Rachel who peeked around a royal rapping rabbit.” I didn’t have much trouble with this, but for some reason I wrote the phrase on a slant and the letters sort of went into the castle in the background. That’s why it is always important to use disappearing pens when marking out your patterns. I was happy to finish that one today. Now, I only have from S to Z. I already know my sayings for…

  • Creative Process

    The Creative Process

It has been a few days since I’ve blogged because, to be honest, at the end of the day, I just don’t feel like it. I know that is not keeping with my goal, but it’s true. Another truth is the incubation stage of the Creative Process. This is not just a myth or something creatives made up; it’s a real thing. So, the creative process goes like this. This process can begin in different places and go back and forth through stages, but in the end, this is the process everyone goes through when creating something. Let me give…

  • Mandalas - Peek Babies

    Start of Peek Babies R

I have been trying to get started working by 9 AM and finish by 5 PM. That seems to be working unless I have an appointment or some task to carry out. This morning it was trying to get the prescriptions set up on our new medical insurance. I spent and hour on that. So, really, I got started at 10 AM today instead of 9. I worked on my second rose quartz mandala and finished it today. After finishing the mandala, I started working on Peek Babies R. R is for Rachel who peeked behind a royal rapping rabbit.…

  • Mandalas

    Mandalas and Urchins

I have a lot of large items for my shows, but not enough smaller items. So, I decided to do some 4″ embroidered mandalas. I draw a design on white or black fabric and stitch it in the opposite color. I also add beads where I feel each needs it. There is a rose quartz bead in the center of each piece. This series will be called the Rose Quartz Mandala series. I finished Mandala 1 and started Mandala 2. I was thinking of selling these individually for $40 each. I also think it would be cool to do a…

  • Days That Got Away

    Time Flies

I’ve been doing things over the past few days, but I haven’t taken time to blog. Here is a list of the things I’ve done besides normal life stuff. Finished Peek Babies Q Started a Small Mandala Thought About My Next Piece Entered Two Pieces in the Fiber February Show at RFS It’s a bit hard to blog everyday, especially when I’ve been working in the studio all day. However, I am going to start making time at the end of the day to keep blogging. So, I’m up-to-date, but just a bit late on a few posts. : )…

  • Peek Babies

    Starting Q Peek Baby

I started Q for Quinn in the Peek Babies Series. This will be the alphabet represented with babies in an alliteration format to use in my Hoops and Hangers series at my Blue Hill COOP show. I have finished babies A-P. I will do a post showing all of them soon. Right now, I’m trying to get enough work done to fill a large wall at the COOP. So, here are the steps I go through to create the Peek Babies. Step 1 I begin the process with a drawing of what I would like to do. It’s important to…

  • Art Show

    The Show

Don’t ask me why I didn’t take pictures of my work at the show. I have no answer for that other than it was my first show, and I was not sure what to expect. The show theme was Black and White and Shades of Gray. It was perfect for me because I already had a piece called Shades of Gray, and I had started a piece called Better Angels Over Bad Moons. I also committed to make a smaller piece called Winter Night in Harborside. I finally got everything done, but it was a rush to get the last…

  • Art as Business

    Blogging

I have spent a lot of time trying to find the right blog template for me. This may seem trivial, but when you are blogging everyday, it is important to have a theme that doesn’t hinder or irritate you. I just wanted a simple theme that would be pleasant to look at and easy to use. I hope I found one now, but you never know. There is a really good book published some time ago that talks about developing a craft business. Some of the information may be out-of-date, but it is still a really good book for starting…

  • Art as Business

    The Proclamation

I am an Artist! Let’s start with that. I have been playing around with art all of my life. Playing being the operative word. I never thought of myself as a serious artist, just a hobbyist. There is nothing wrong with that if you choose to continue to just be satisfied with making things and giving them away or keeping them. You could even maybe sell some of it if you want. But the business of art is just that–a business. If you want to become a person who is known as an artist, you have to put in the…
