Peek Babies

Day 5 ~ Starting Q Peek Baby

I started Q for Quinn in the Peek Babies Series. This will be the alphabet represented with babies in an alliteration format to use in my Hoops and Hangers series at my Blue Hill COOP show. I have finished babies A-P. I will do a post showing all of them soon. Right now, I’m trying to get enough work done to fill a large wall at the COOP. So, here are the steps I go through to create the Peek Babies.

Step 1

I begin the process with a drawing of what I would like to do. It’s important to create a drawing or idea so that you have a guide. Or not–it’s up to you. I like to have an idea of where I’m going. I come up with a phrase to use and then I draw a scene that matches it. This on is Q is for Quinn who peeked over a cue of quiet quackers. I will applique ducks with the words “quack, quack” in little writing to represent the quiet quacking.

Step 2

I choose background material. I decided to sew blue and green together to represent the sky and grass. I then iron the material. This is obviously before that step. : )

Step 3

I iron a thin fusible batting to the back of the material, and put it in an embroidery hoop.

Step 4

I have to make sure to color the white material the color of the baby’s face earlier so that it will dry.

This is the acrylic paint set I use for the flesh tones.

Step 5

I made a pattern for the duck bodies and cut them out of fusible interfacing.

Step 6 and last step for today

I drew a fenced area with marker and embroidered over it using a modified feather stitch to make it look like fishnet.
