The Shape of Things 19″ X 19″ $275
The material for this piece was dyed at the same time I dyed The Lion Sleeps Tonight. I used rocks from the driveway and tied them with strings. The brown on the piece is dirt. The birch bark on the squares are from my yard. They are flattened and stitched. The brown material is cotton dyed in tea.
Sometimes I name my pieces before I start, but this piece was named after I finished. It is a tribute to the Native Americans who have gone before–in our case the Wabanaki Tribe. The Shape of Things came to me because white man shaped the Native American’s future. What would it be like if it were the other way around? I believe a more peaceful and loving place.
