Better Angels Over Bad Moons 22″ X 44″ $650
This piece started with a white piece of material that I dyed with black RIT dye using the Shibori method. I gathered the areas where the spots are with rubber bands. I sat with it for a long time trying to decide what to do with it.
The Creedence Clearwater Revival song–Bad Moon Rising–came to me. Then I started to think about the bad moons that we have in our country today. It feels like we are doomed, but I believe there are better angels working in the background to bring the good out over the bad.
I started quilting it by creating a wing pattern. I traced the pattern through the “moons” with a white marking chalk. I stitched the wings with silver thread and beaded around them. I added moon stones for some of the angels and glass heart beads for the rest in the chakra colors. That symbolizes that angels do not discriminate.
After the angels were completed, I stitched “ripples” coming from each of the “moons.” The colors fade as they move to the edge. That symbolizes the weakening power of the moons as they move out from the source.
