Origin of Loaves with Fishes

I started this piece with two placemats I bought at World Market. I liked the symbols on the background mat. I cut the fish out of the other mat, appliqued them on to the background. The red material was from an old skirt that I had. That material represents the “loaves” and they are reverse appliqued. I also embroidered and beaded on this piece. The beads came from a necklace I didn’t wear much.

This piece represents the diverse beliefs of the Origin of the Species and the religious story of Jesus feeding the multitudes. Both beliefs live together on this piece.
